If you are too lazy to remember the LaTeX commands, you are aided by a lot of possible editors that know the most common commands (like some HTML editors do). If you like to see what you get while editing your text, you could try LyX. This editor shows documents in the so called WYSIWYM style (What you see is what you mean). Working with LaTeX is much easier for some people, though it still is completely different from working with Word & co.!
